Ovpylvňujeme ich výzor, povahové danosti, zdravotný stav i kvalitu života.
Preto je potrebné venovať im dostatočnú pozornosť, lásku a neho. To všetko si vyžadujú, veď sú tu vďaka nám a pre nás.

Chov psov- šteniatká
Starostlivosť o šteniatka je komplikovaná záležitosť, tak ako starostlivosť o malé dieťa, navyše okrem času vyžaduje aj nemalé finančné prostriedky. Každý by si želal, aby jeho sučka nemala žiadne problém počas pôrodu ani po ňom, aby boli šteniatka zdravé a rýchlo rástli a čo najskôr sa pre nich našiel nový majiteľ. Bohužial realita býva často iná.
Treba sa pripraviť na možné komplikácie už počas gravidity sučky, čo si môže vyžiadať sono sučky, či nejaké špeciálne vitamíny, liečivá a lekárske zákroky. Samozrejme netreba zabúdať na zvýšné množstvo kvalitej potravy pre budúcu psiu matku. Pôrod môže prebehnúť hladko a bez komplikácii, no i tu treba byť pripravený na nutný veterinárny zákrok. Veľa sučiek má počas pôrodu problémy a šteniatka musia prísť na svet cisárskym rezom.
Ak sa sučka o šteniatka riadne stará, všetko si robí sama. Jej pelech so šteniatkami treba udržiavať v čistote. Samozrejme teraz potrebuje matka šteniat viac kvalitnej potravy, aby mohla živiť svoje šteniatka.
Keď sa šteniatkam otvoria oči a začnú behať, je to nie len veľa radosti ale aj starostli. Šteniatkam sa bude treba venovať viac ako doteraz. Musia si vytvoriť správne väzby nie len na matku ale aj chovateľa, svoje okolie a človeka vôbec. V takýchto prípadoch sú veľmi nápomocné nezáväzne návštevy. Vhodné je šteniatka zoznamovať s množstvom ľudí, s deťmi ale aj inými psami či zvieratami ak je to nutné. Treba im zabezpčiť hračky, dostatočný výbeh s pravidelnou hygienou a samozrejme kvalitnú potravu.
Šteniatkam treba venovať zvýšenú pozornosť, sú zvedavé a roztopašné. Chcú a budú ochutnávať úplne všetko, čo nájdu. Z ich dosahu treba odstrániť všetko čo by pre ne mohlo byť len trošku nebezpečené.
